THE SAILMAKING COMPANY FOUNDATION
Murphy&Nye and sailing: a historic bond that can trace its roots back to the early 20th century, when Jim Murphy and Harry Nye Jr. founded their sailmaking company in Chicago in 1933, specializing in leisure sails.
Lynn Williams, the owner of yacht Elisabeth, was M&N's first customer for large sails, helping him the prestigious and historic Mackinac Race on Lake Michigan in 1933.

1980/ Becomes a Clothing Brand
In the 1960s, Murphy&Nye was one of the most important sailing companies in the United States, and in 1975, it opened its European branch in Italy. It was such a great success that in 1980, M&N Europe acquired the brand from the American parent company.
At the same time, the company decided to optimize its know-how in the production of racing sails to produce clothing for crews. These highly technical garments were handcrafted in the same sail lofts where the sails were made, perfectly meeting the robustness and functionality requirements demanded by the crews.

1992 /Paul Cayard + il Moro di Venezia + Murphy&Nye = History
America's Cup became a moment of enormous visibility for Murphy&Nye when, in the historic 1992 edition, the M&N Sailwear line was chosen as the official supplier of the Il Moro di Venezia team, captained by Paul Cayard. This was the first time that a non-Anglophone country’s boat competed in the America's Cup, and Murphy&Nye joined this unforgettable adventure. On April 30, 1992, Moro di Venezia won the Louis Vuitton Cup, defeating Team New Zealand.

In the following years, the brand signed a co-marketing agreement with Pershing, a company of the Ferretti Group, for which the Murphy&Nye Power collection was created.
Between 2005 and 2007, in addition to being the Exclusive Supplier of Emirates Team New Zealand and United Internet Team Germany, M&N is chosen by the America's Cup organizers to design and produce the official men's, women's, and junior collections under the "32nd America's Cup" brand, with an exclusive worldwide three-year license.
